The Perfect Age for a Newborn Session | Little Hauflings Photography | Quad Cities

Have you wondered when you should schedule a newborn portrait session?

If you have wondered when you should schedule a newborn portrait session, my answer is as soon as possible! The perfect age for a newborn session is within the first two weeks of life. After that, babies start to grow and change so rapidly that it becomes difficult to capture their true essence. Don’t wait too long or you’ll miss your chance!

Newborn sessions are one of the most popular types of photography sessions we offer at our studio because they’re such a special time in a family’s life. But what if you’ve missed out on this opportunity? It can be hard to make up for lost time when it comes to photographing babies – especially if they’re older than 2 weeks old.

As a Quad City Newborn photographer, I help families document their sweet new bundle of joy so they can look back and cherish these fleeting moments after they’ve passed. When you book a newborn portrait session, you will have all the little features documented. From tiny fingers and toes, little lips, and those long baby eyelashes!

I go the extra mile when it comes to newborn photography sessions.

Why should you have your newborn session within the first 2 weeks of life?

Babies are only “newborns” for a very short time! It’s essential that we get them into the studio as quickly as possible to capture every little detail of your sleepy newborn before they start to be wide awake and alert at around 3-4 weeks old. When you bring baby in while they are still brand new it is considered to be the prime time for capturing a newborn’s true essence, as they rapidly change and grow after that. Sessions beyond the two-week mark can still be done, but it becomes more difficult to photograph certain details.

When to schedule your newborn session

It’s best to schedule your newborn session before baby has even arrived to ensure I have availability on my calendar. Many of my clients book in the second trimester and some as soon as they find out they are pregnant. The earlier, the better to ensure you get on the calendar. We will set a ‘tentative’ date 6-14 days after your due date. Baby’s rarely come when they are due, so we will adjust your session date accordingly. With so many babies coming into the world I can only fit a limited amount per month! So be sure to check with us as soon as you know you want to have a newborn session so I can get you on my calendar!

How to prepare for your newborn photography session

Preparing for your newborn session is very easy! My studio has a large assortment of quality stretch wraps and props from all around the world! I have so many colors available to customize your newborn photo session, no need to bring anything!

What happens during my photoshoot with Little Hauflings Photography

Babies LOVE when they are warm and this will keep them sleepy and comfortable during their newborn session. However, this means my studio will be a warm 80ish degrees. Do dress in layers that can be removed while you’re here!

I’ll have you bring baby in their car seat and I’ll take them out, swaddle them and begin posing when we’re ready. It’s completely normal when baby gets a little cranky during their newborn session. I will ask you to feed them (either breast or bottle is perfectly fine!) and fill them up so they are good and “Milk Drunk”!

After about 30 minutes of family photos, the rest of the family can head home and we will begin our baby-focused portraits. These take a long while and we encourage you to use this time to relax and enjoy seeing the process unfold! Know that safety is of utmost importance in my studio and we take great care with your precious bundle!

If you’ve missed out on this opportunity, don’t worry! You can still schedule a session with us, but be aware that your baby may not be as sleepy as if they were photographed within those first two weeks. We hope you’ll consider booking a newborn session with Little Hauflings Photography! We would love to capture these precious moments for you!
