1. When did you open Little Ones Ultrasound, and what inspired you to start your 3D/4D ultrasound studio?

I opened my 3D/4D ultrasound studio in March of 2023. It was very challenging. I was planning a wedding the same year, just 6 months later. I was also starting a new part-time job. My husband and family supported me. Their support made it all come true. It made it easier for me to tell myself, “I can do this.” I learned that most moms only get scanned about 2 times in their entire pregnancy. I decided they need more opportunities to see their little one in the womb. That’s where I come in!

2. Tell us about yourself — what should people know about you and your passion for this work?

My name is Lexie. I am a certified and licensed ultrasound tech. I took 6 national boards. I also work at an OBGYN office and Genesis East Hospital. I am married to my amazing husband, Colin, and we have a beautiful, vintage home in Davenport, IA., along with a super cute and needy goldendoodle. We have both sides of our families in town, which I cherish so much. We are very lucky to have such large families that live in the same town as us.

3. What services do you offer? Which service do your clients book most often, and what would you love to see more families try?

I offer many services/packages for my clients. We have the “sneak peek” ultrasound package. This is for first trimester scans and ranges from 8 weeks up until 15 weeks. The “quick glance” package is the most popular and ranges from 15 weeks up until 35 weeks. We also have the “gender scan” and that’s from 15 weeks up until 26 weeks. Some people can order the “Watch me grow” package. This package lets you see your baby once a month. It also includes a gender scan and a heartbeat bear. The “final peek” package is for the late pregnancy stage starting at 36 weeks up until delivery! We have many items like heartbeat bears and these are the most popular. We can put the baby’s heartbeat in the back of these bears. Parents love it! We sell gender supplies, free Enfamil giveaways, mommy care kits, and more!

4. How early in pregnancy can expecting moms schedule an ultrasound with you

The earliest a mom can book with me is 8 weeks. Mothers have to have a confirmed pregnancy with an ultrasound from their doctor stating the due date. 

5. Do you offer options for gender reveals, like sealing the results in an envelope?

Gender reveals can go in envelopes. Most parents want to find out right then and there. In that case, I will try for profile pictures and then head right into the gender scan. 

6. What’s the difference between 3D and 4D ultrasounds? Is there anything you wish more families knew about these types of scans?

3D and 4D are different. 3D ultrasound is an advanced method of ultrasound which creates a 3 -dimensional view of your baby’s face. 4D creates a live video of your little one! This type of ultrasound will show the baby in 3D but captures the baby in action, like a movie.

7. Do families get their ultrasound images digitally, as prints, or both?

We print the images out. Most OBGYN facilities do not print their images anymore. We also have digital images available through an app. Clients can download it, and it’s super easy!

8. Is there any possibility of insurance coverage for ultrasound sessions?

All clients pay out of pocket because insurance will not cover any non diagnostic ultrasounds. 

9. What’s the best time during pregnancy to book an ultrasound session for the most detailed images?

The best time to do a 3D/4D scan is 28-30 weeks. By this time, the baby has grown enough fat on their face for clearer images. 

10. How long does a typical ultrasound session last?

An ultrasound is only booked for 30 minutes. If we can’t get good images in that time frame, we allow clients to come back a week later. They can try again free of charge!
